The butterfly effect: a holistic approach for a better coaching

When we change ourselves the entire world shifts (Luci Bonini)

1. INTRODUCTION

This work has the purpose to show my coaching model. It is based upon Quantum Mechanics, Yin and Yang ancient oriental philosophy and the Butterfly Effect Theory, all this theories applied to Coaching in a holistic approach.

This paper presents this theories in a simply way in order to reach the great point, that is my model.

2. LET`S SEE THE CONCEPTS FIRST

2.1 COACHING: A HOLISTIC APPROACH

According to Wikipedia Holism (from λος holos, a Greek word meaning all, entire, total) is the idea that all the properties of a given system (biological, chemical, social, economic, mental, linguistic, etc.) cannot be determined or explained by its component parts alone. Instead, the system as a whole determines in an important way how the parts behave.”

I believe that a holistic approach in this case is the starting point for the development of our model to the whole process of a relationship between coach and coachee in order to both achieve success.

2.2 QUANTUM MECHANICS

In general, a quantum (pl. quanta) is a usually small, well distinguished portion (quantity or amount) of something. Quantum mechanics is the study of mechanical systems whose dimensions are showed in atomic scale, or the infinitesimal particles described by Quantum theory that provides accurate descriptions for many previously unexplained phenomena in the universe: a world that man intend to explain because he believes he will find his spiritual forces there.

Energy is not continuous, but comes in small but discrete units, these units are called quanta, and they behave both like particles and like waves.

This movement is randomized, meaning that it is physically impossible to know both at the same moment: we can not observe a particle and a wave at the same time. Because of it, Niels Bohr (1995) called it of PRINCIPLE OF COMPLEMENTARITY, which teaches us that some observations can never be made simultaneously. For example, one cannot see an electron as a particle and a wave at the same time.

It all means that complementarity principle name two concepts as complementary, an experiment that clearly illustrates one concept will obscure the other complementary one. For example, an experiment that illustrates the particle properties of light will not show any of the wave properties of light. This principle also implies that only certain kinds of information can be gained in a particular experiment. Some other information that is equally important cannot be measured simultaneously and is lost.

That is what Quanta Coaching Model wants to show: the principle of complementarity in coaching partnership, because coaching is to take action in life, in business, in spirituality, and so on.

Human behaviors are randomized too: action – delay; responsibility – blame; trust – doubt, responding – react; respect – invalidation; truth – fraud; believe – doubt; destiny – hazard; culture – nature; free choice – destiny; heaven – hell; crime – punishment and others. These behaviors give them different perspectives. It depends on the situation he/she lives.

So coaching is about perspective. Shifting perspectives in life is the great skill to moving forward: remember as a wave or a particle. It is not necessarily know which one is better, the first or other one, but the questions is: what do you want? All the things that come after this question a coach can help someone to achieve this goal, of course we must take the better way, that one that let us to pleasure, beauty, love and fulfillment. Because of it coaching is based on ethics (from greek, means the better, that what is good)
